We just received notification on Friday that our home address will be changed, effective in just two weeks. This, after renaming the road we live on and replacing road signs (more than once, as well), spending taxpayer money where it was not needed and certainly not wanted. This will require us to notify everyone of the address change (bank accounts, driver's license, creditors, family, friends, employers, etc.), of course at our own expense; and in only two weeks!!!!! I would like to know why the county board can make these kind of changes without even letting anyone know until it's been put into effect. Why don't we have a say in the matter? What does it accomplish, other than forcing us to make changes that we didn't want in the first place. Do any of the board members live on the roads that have had address changes? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! I believe if they had to make the changes, they would vote it down unanimously!!!! Yet, they have no problem whatsoever putting the burden on our backs. They can be sure that not one of them will get my vote at the next election.

So sorry to hear they have done this to you and many others. I would be madder than a hornet, too if, I had to go through making all those changes. I believe I know which road you are referring, too and most people even the ones living in the county have no idea who or what this man did to have all those signs in his honor.
Like Rt.34 the Ronald Reagan Highway, wonder what that cost the taxpayer's of Illinois? Maybe "concern" can find out from his money saving party?...lol I personally would've preferred Walter Payton Highway instead..."GO BEARS"!!!
Most importantly...for the past 40 years some families have tried to get them to put "School Bus Stop Ahead" or "School Bus Turn Out" signs around the county...with No prevail !!!
So Thank-you for bringing this to our attention...Hope It Helps!!!

What is up with this? The Feds r broke, the County is broke, the State is broke and the postal system is broke. Why is this change happening.? The only good thing is my bills won't be getting to me so I won't be broke!

This address change is not a new thing, nor do you have to comply within two weeks.
The county has been working on updating their mailing addresses for the past year and a half in order to make it easier for emergency responders to find rural addresses in the county. Many people can't always follow the direction, "north of so-and so's house, which use to be X's house twenty years ago." Also, if you've ordered anything, most of the UPS and other carriers will not drop off anything to a PO box address, so many people were happy about the change. The addresses were all approved by the post office (they HAD to approve the changes) and everyone will have a YEAR to make their changes.
I believe that the county tried very hard not to change a person's address that much, but some did change quite a bit. I'm sorry you feel that it's an imposition. Hopefully you can see the overall benefit for everyone. By doing the project in-house the county saved over $40,000. (They received a quote to do the same thing for somewhere around $60,000 or more). Also, the county's highway department is NOT broke. that's who spearheaded the work.

I believe the state has an incentive for all municipalities to pay to replace all their signs. there is a new reflective standard that is currently not required, but if the municipalities sign up early, then the state will pay for the new replacements. As far as I know the county, Bradford, Toulon and Wyoming have all signed up for this option.
How that applies to the new addressing system, I'm not sure, but if they needed to replace the signs anyway, It's good that they finish the new addressing before then. I havent' heard if the West jersey road will be renamed, but the special names are memorial signs. I think.

how can anyone be upset at the new addresses? it is to enhance the physical addresses of the rural residents for emergency personnel on your location. i know i would want the quickest response if it were my loved one awaiting an ambulance, or law enforcement. if it is indeed an emergency, life or death situation, a few minutes means a great deal to me and my family! ii welcome the new addresses!

I would like to say welcome to the 21st Century Stark County! When was the last time you tried to order something to be delivered to your home if you live in the country? The people taking your address do not even know how to type a RR in their computer and then it spits it out, luckily Fed Ex and UPS know most of us so we somehow get the items after we make up a address.
Not to mention the most important of all - 911.
Yes, I am sad to see my old address go - funny I am a little attached to it, money or no money, it is time.

Yes, it is true, nobody can afford it right now, but have you ever broken down in your vehicle and tried to explain to the auto club where you are located. Folks in a city office are clueless and humorless when it comes to finding things out in the country. This will have to help. And it will make emergency responses a lot easier as well.
Also, I live in town but have a R.R. box mailbox. The regional post office has automaticly changed our address on some magazines without our knowledge, which led to a lot of confusion and duplication. So, you may as well start doing it for yourself.

"Who is sharky?".....Ask your grandpappy or any adult that has been around a little while.
People used to be smart enough to find a rural location. Due to the CHANGE to a dumbed down America, that is no longer the case.
The old "fire numbers" for rural locations/farms used to work fine. Of course anyone under 50 or so doesn't know about that "address system for emergency responders".

People are not dumb. But not all people have lived in the area all their lives. So "old man Smith's barn" may not be a valid reference point for everyone, if you get what I mean. And to a tow truck driver, or a mutual fire responder, etc., local reference points don't work very well either. A universal system would make it better. I can find anything if it is on a map, but I don't think I would fing the "Smith barn" on any map.

Concern, you see, if you can read a map, and if the roads are all marked logically, anyone can find their way anywhere they may be. I have found my way all over the country just by reading the altas. And yes, I can even find my way around Illinois, on even the tiniest back roads, by reading the Illinois Gazetter Atlas, but that is because our country roads now have a logically numbered system to go by. The emergency services use this system as well. Not all accidents or fires are at a country home, so the old fire number system wouldn't always work for those calls. Rural street numbers and street addresses for rural homes just makes a lot of sense. Yes, change can be difficult, but that doesn't mean it is bad. Some change is good. We have all managed to learn to ride in cars and turn on electric lights, after all.

Let's leave other people out of this, shall we? Yes, a logical numbered system of roads and addresses works in the rural areas just as well as it does in town. When an emergency call comes in, these numbered roads are used to find the problem quickly, just as you would tell a dispatcher that the emergency was at the corner of Main St. and Elm St., for example. I am just guessing here, but that would probably get help to the problem faster than saying it was in front of Grandma Sally's house. Not everyone may know your Grandma Sally and where she lives.
I would hope that smart, logical, forward-looking people can belong to any political, religious, or whatever, affiliation. Forward looking thought should not be just a liberal thing. Change can be for the better.

To "No Voice"- You did have a voice in this matter, the elected officials. They, are looking out for your best interest. If they didn't, you wouldn't be getting the new addresses. You, are not the sole person or owner of the streets, be it county, or other. The County is doing what is best for every one. And I am glad they are.
