Add my name to the list of the water tower climbers.. I climbed it at least 5 times in the late 80s and early 90 for fun...Even managed to get a few friends to tag along.(Can't do that now after 9/11 and the security fence ) The view is spectacular...you can see quite a ways in every direction...but I liked the Valley at night..I could almost pick out the farms by name. The scariest thing about it was not the climb ...but when the top would "burp" to let water out....it would cave in a little due to the pressure...then pop back up...a crazy feeling when you were sitting on top of it. Not sure what ya'll can do about it...good luck... Man that was fun!!!!!

Ha..I bet! The climbing part is the most fun...that and watching your friends, when they are scared to death! LOL Mike R is 'who hey culligan man' was talking about. He is the manager of the water dept over their in Kewanee. I used to do Kewanee's radio work their. If he don't remember the numbers he can get them.
I quit the climbing due to health problems last year. I miss it some. I still have my belt & lanyard, but it is not a harness anymore...Not OSHA approved!! But I use it when I climb HAM towers. I'm exempt from a harness type for amateur radio towers.

I am afraid that all you climbers probably just blew it on saving the old Wyoming Water Tower?.....the council will probably take it down to save on liability insurance.

Naww, there are security fences, and motion lights & cameras there now. Besides, no one wants to get into trouble for that anyways. Trespassing on city buildings and structures is a big no no since 9/11.
Also, we all have said we "climbed" it years ago. Besides, installing an 8' security leg box takes about an hour on each leg, and would only cost about $100 to build them, if made out of treated plywood, and painted the next year.

Sorry, I just figured there were. There are towns (or cities), that do have security cameras, and motion lights at the water towers, or resivours. Some water towers have the town's communications antennas on them.

That figures! Do they even have a set schedule on hours? I know sometimes they run real low on volunteers, so they maynot have anyone to cover calls, and or the building. I will do some checking to see if there is anything from the State...good luck!
