I am totally against the old water tower being torn down...if I'm not mistaken it was named a historic landmark for our state. One of the oldest ones still standing and in use. I am a firm believer in if it's not broke don't fix it.
Coming into Wyoming from the valley it is just nice to see our old tower...makes Wyoming more welcoming I guess!!
Maybe our new Mayor will fight to keep it standing!!! Let's hope so!!

there not keeping so the old one so your not paying for 2 water towers to be ran your paying more taxes because of the new water tower and the water system the old one has nothing to do with the taxes being higher or your water bill being much higher its all from the new system being installed and the new taller bigger water tower being put up. if anyone has any information or someone to contact to help stop the original one being stopped from being tore down that be helpful. and i don't believe it was marked a historic site cause if it was that's illegal to tear down but iv heard there was to get past that by saying we don't have enough money to re paint it but how hard is it to actually have something fun and worth having in this town then a fundraiser or something it don't have to be done right now and its not like the towers going to fall down anytime soon it just need a fresh coat of paint.

I will be honest here and say I haven't done much research on the Wyoming Water Tower destruction.
I guess what you need to ask yourselves: do you want to keep the look of an old historic part of Wyoming next to the old depot and natural trail? Or do you tear it down and forget the past and move on with the look of the 21st century? What the cost will be to save it just for looks vs. losing it? Will the new bubble tower be right next to the old one? If so, I would think that wouldn't look very impressive? What might be taken into consideration, which I have seen in other cities that want to keep apiece of the past is: To take the scraps and rebuild a smaller version and place by the depot or one of the two parks or next to the Welcome sign. With Wyoming having three main entries into town don't know if they could build three? I am sure there would be volunteers come forward to help. Maybe the next Mayor could ask Aldrich workers how to do this? Just a suggestion.

i don't believe this topic is about WWIII people its about the Wyoming water tower and what the WYOMING citizens think about the destruction of the original and well made water tower. and if i could receive any help from anyone to stop the destruction of the tower. i do believe it is the current mayors fault for it being tore down and i believe she just wants a new tower to put her name on it just so she can say i did that but wouldn't you feel alot better if you had your name on the original tower and the new one saying i saved the old one and i built a new one. it is already on paper that the new one is going up to the south and the left of the old on you can see the place where they marked it off by the new city building. i have tried to contact the state about this but with no luck with reply's but i know the city has had a phone call from the state historical place about tearing it down last summer when i first contacted them before it was on paper and ready to tear down. i don't think they will be tearing it down anytime soon so i would like to get as much help as i can and again this is about the WYOMING water tower and opinions on the destruction on it not WWIII and government. Sincerely, The Defender

Are you pretty sure the state listed the Wyoming Water Tower a Historical Landmark? If this is true.... better leave it alone.
I will agree if it's not broke don't build new...but if the new liner, paint job and demolishing it out ways the cost of a new tower...then I would think they will vote to go ahead and build a new one.
Maybe just keep the old one for a spare..look what happened to Princeville....and the way things are made today. I wouldn't be surprised if the old one would still out live the new one...but then I won't be alive to worry about that...a WIN!!WIN!! Situation

Yes it is. I had done repairs on a few in the area. I also did some iron work...i wont get too much into it here, but i do love the views. It is ashame if they do remove it. I was upset that they removed the one from Kewanee. I remember the last paint job it got. Kewanee hired an out of state company to do it, then the next year they wanted a new one...

start a petition? or go to the city council meeting tonight at 7 pm and ask if it is a historical place and how they are getting around it and not getting in trouble for tearing the tower down.

if the city of Wyoming has 2.5 million dollars would t you think it would be logical to just give the old one a new liner and a paint job and 15 yrs ago the paint job cost about 300,000 so now a days prolly 550,000 for a new paint job and i;m not sure on new liner but i know it would be alot cheaper and faster to just revamp the old one and make it like new .

How old is the water tower? Also, you need to know, structurally, is the tower legs, ok? Like the lattice, and cross-bracing, and horizontals. Bolts, or rivets, which ever they may have used up until early 70's.
Blasting with walnut shells, and primer, and a good laquer type paint-which is expensive, but so is the 3 part epoxy paint and the laquer type is just as good, in our area.
Depending on the amount of cleaning/repairs to the substructure as well as the tank itself-it still might be cheaper than a new one plus the cost of the demo of the old.
Get a hold of Mike in Kewanee water dept. and ask what it cost them the last time they had it done-and the cost of the new water tower and removal of the old...
