PRESS RELEASE
The Bureau Valley District #340 Board of Education met in regular session Monday, April 27, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the BEST Program cafeteria in Manlius. A special meeting was convened at 7:15 p.m. for the purpose of canvass of election results from the April 7 school board elections with the following results declared: District 3-Keith Bolin, unopposed, 226 votes; District 5-Roger Craine, unopposed, 162 votes; District 6-Camela McMahon, 114 votes; Jim Lilley, 152 votes and declared winner; District 7-Myron Rumbold, unopposed, 134 votes. The canvass was accepted and the Board adjourned sine die.
In opening the regular meeting, re-elected board members Craine, Bolin and Rumbold and newly elected Lilley were issued the oath of office and seated on the Board. President Roger Craine, Vice President Kent Siltman and Secretary Don DeWaele were re-elected to their offices.
The Board welcomed the Bureau Valley Foundation President Mary Heward and members Kate Fordham, Teresa Buysse and Kirsten Johnston who presented $5856 in 2008-09 Foundation grants to the following staff members:
David Larkin, BV-North-$800 for purchase of musical instruments for general music classes;
Tina Eller, HS-$598 for foreign language magazines;
Aimee Stoller, HS-$200 for ACT sample booklets for test preparation;
Donna Huebner, Librarian-$300 for Reading Incentive Program;
Sharon Peterson, North & South Librarian-$1820 for Scholastic Reading Counts License;
Joyce Wallace, HS-$1045 for 5 pocket video cameras;
Sue Bromme, HS-$243 for Life Skills game and cards
Prin. Patterson, HS-$850 for a Scantron for scanning and grading test results
Since 1996, the Foundation has supported educational programs throughout the District with over $80,000 in supplemental grants. The Board thanked the Foundation for their continued support and recognized their recent successful Drawdown fundraiser.
