NEW MANUFACTURING PLANT IN MAPLETON CELEBRATES SUCCESS
Central Illinois has another business success story to celebrate. Corn Products U.S. now operates a plant in Mapleton that makes low calorie sweeteners. Corn Products chose this region because of the available resources and abundant corn base in Central Illinois.
For more than 100 years, this company has created ingredients for a wide range of products including baked goods, confectionery, dairy, processed foods, beverages and personal care products. The parent company, Corn Products International, operates 35 plants in 15 countries and now adds Central Illinois to the list.
The Mapleton sweetener plant began operation in November 2008 and on May 7th, 2009 the company will host an invitation-only ribbon cutting to celebrate at the plant located at 8310 West Rt. 24 in Mapleton. Event speakers include Jim McConoughey and Carol Merna (District Chief of Staff for Congressman Aaron Schock).
The Economic Development Council for Central Illinois assisted Corn Products in its relocation by facilitating the reduction of construction material costs as a benefit of locating in the Enterprise Zone. In the Enterprise Zone local and state sales tax are waived on construction supplies in order to encourage economic development.
Corn Products prides itself on being a good corporate citizen and recognizes the importance of maintaining environmentally sound manufacturing operations. The Company has adopted a set of environmental stewardship principles that are operative at each plant, office, and warehouse worldwide. In addition, the company supports regional and local charitable organizations by volunteering time and donating supplies and funds to agencies that help to ensure the safety, education, wellness and economic development of local communities.
