OSF SAINT FRANCIS CENTERS FOR BREAST HEALTH TO OFFER MAMMOGRAMS FOR UNDERSERVED WOMEN (May 7, 2009) – Despite the tight economy, the OSF Saint Francis Centers for Breast Health want all women to have the benefit of a mammogram. To help achieve that goal, the Centers for Breast Health have been awarded a $25,000 grant for mammograms for underserved women by the National Breast Cancer Foundation. National City Bank nominated the Centers for Breast Health for the grant and made a donation to support it. The National Breast Cancer Foundation mission is to save lives by increasing awareness through education and providing mammograms for those-in-need, particularly the uninsured or under-insured. Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Early detection is important in fighting the disease. The OSF Saint Francis Centers for Breast Health expect to provide mammograms to upwards of 250 women because of the NBCF grant. There is no age limit. Those receiving a mammogram must have a physician to whom the results can be sent, in addition to meeting income qualifications. If a woman does not have a primary care physician, the Centers for Breast Health can provide information on finding one. To schedule a mammogram, call the Centers for Breast Health at 309-683-5522 and mention the NBCF grant.
