Something needs to be done about the population explosion of cats in Wyoming. It's on the verge of becoming a health hazard. I know several folks who have a problem with cats using their flower beds as litter boxes. The smell is ghastly! There was an 8 yr old who died of Bubonic Plague in New Mexico. It still happens in this day and age, but if caught antibiotics help. It's spread through rodents and fleas . Even if this particular disease isn't spread by these cats there are other health issues that can arise from this kind of infestation. Anyone have any suggestions?
P.S. Get your critters fixed, people. Please.

We need an inexpensive neuter program in Stark County. Galesburg has a catch-neuter-release program, and something like that would help a lot.
Some people find the cost of a vet's fees too high, so they dump their cats. Those who take these poor animals in can also find these fees to be a burden, and so the problem gets bigger.
We need help.

All the cats that roam in town are left from women that have moved on,three that I know of,but I won't mention any names. I too, have cats in and around my home and although I hate cats they do keep mice away. A suggestion I have heard of for many years is to bag them and throw them in the Spoon River.Problem solved.

that is not right. there are shelters that will take them. Please do not be cruel!!! that makes me physically ill. TAKE THEM TO A SHELTER!!! Anyone that can "bag them and throw them in the river" is akin to Jeffrey Dahmers!! That's how he got his start!!

Maybe you could just bag them all up and take them over to Concern's house. Give him something to play with other than his computer.

To mcg.....don't get your panties all knotted up.....that's just an old joke amongst some in town.
You do realize these cats are not friendly...they are wild! Like squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, etc. Even if, they were house pets at one time in their long life they are no longer. They hiss at you, run from you, hide in tall grass watching out for low flying birds, and the worse thing dig out landscaping into your yard as they leave their feces under your window, so at night when you open your window to get some fresh air all one smells is cat sh()t! Also, do you know a place that will shelter 100's of these wild animals???
To Red Wings....GREAT IDEA!!....Do you know his address?

Im sure mcg can and will speak for herself...but in her defense, I dont think she was saying YOU were cruel...but the "old joke" IS cruel. The sadness about this is it is not the cats fault that they are living wild. If indeed they were someones pet at one time, the owner's are the culprit. I can understand your frustration. I too have many stray cats in my neighborhood...some friendly and some..Yes..very wild and certainly not friendly. I think its a problem that will never have a solution. I think your best bet would be to see if there is anything illegal about setting up a cat-friendly trap...I know they have them available for purchase. It doesnt hurt the animal...jsut confines them...and then you could call your local animal control if there is one to come get it. Or maybe see if your local vet would be willing to take the animals you have trapped. Maybe the vet would have something you could use for trapping the little critters. Just some ideas...a little more humane than "the joke".

unfortunately, the shelters are full, at least the no kill shelters are. PAWS in Peoria has to take animals, but they euthanize a lot of them too, when they get too many.
The vets don't take them. It is so sad. Cats are wonderful friends, but there can be too many of them. It is not their fault.

I have 6 cats, all strays, 2 of which were wild at one time but thru cat food and patience, I was able to catch those 2, have them neutered, and 1 of them is very loving but the 2nd , not so much but still is in the house and doesn't hiss or spit, just doesn't want to be touched too much. 3 of my 6 cats are the wild one's babies. so now my neighborhood is for the most part free of strays.

Why isn't there a law in Wyoming against cats there is a law for dogs and lord knows if a dog is caught running around animal control will pick them up and take care of getting rid of them if not claimed. I think the new mayor and board needs to address this issue and do the right thing either make an ordinance for cats or drop all ordinances against dogs, if this were people we were talking about it would be called RACISM what is good for one animal is good for all others. How about we just start making owners liable for their cats or just put a bounty out on the cats heads and let the hunting begin
Yes i am a dog owner and it pisses me off to see the cats sit and taunt my dog which is tied up on his leash in my yard and obeying the law and as stated above my wife tries to land scape the yard with flowers and the next day some are dug up with cat prints all around them

Dog, I have felt the same for years. Why are dogs forced to be tied up and cats can roam free. I say put a leash on them and maybe my child's sandbox with not be full of cat crap!

I am not a cat lover - but the cats deserve better. I am sure they are sick and breeding. That is not humane. Round them up find homes for the healthy ones and euthanize the rest. Sad as that is - it is more caring than letting them go homeless, sick and starving. To me that is much more caring. In Canton at the Humane Society/Pound they euthanize supposably 10,000 dogs a month. Can you imagine how many cats get put down, it is all just so sad. All animals deserve better.

This was brought at a town meeting 2 years ago. The mayor at that time could care less. They were suppose to fine the people that were feeding the cats. It was at that time if your feeding then you were the owner and you were responsible for get the shots and fixed. I can't put nice pation stuff out because of the cats. Can't open my windows for fresh air because of the smell. Can't let kids play in the yard of the poop. You walk in your yard and then come into your home and track the germs around. These cats need to be caught they are ferel cats, not pets. Dogs are not aloud to run free why should these cats. ALL PEOPLE THAT ARE FEEDING OR BREEDING SHOULD BE SLAPPED WITH A FAT FINE, OR PAY FOR THE POPERTY DAMAGE THESE THINGS ARE CAUSING.

There is a house over by the elementary school that lets there cats run free and i seen the other day that one of them had kittens nothing like more cats running around tearing things up I've even seen one person that walks their dog so it can go to the bathroom in other peoples yards and they have a cat that follows them around running free while the dog is on a leash.
The new Mayor needs to figure out how to fix this problem and do it quick before BB guns or guns start going off in this town to rid them our selfs

Yes, I see your point (not) that starving the poor animals is a good way to handle the situation.
I say we need to investigate the "catch/neuter/release" program.
At the very least, catch and take to some place like PAWS where they will be humanely put down if sick or not adoptable.
Come on people...are we so intolerant of our fellow creatures on this earth that we can't care enough to come up with a plan?
